Class: Aves
Family: Pycnonotidae
Species: Pycnonotus leucogenys
Common Name: White-Cheeked Bulbul
Description: Resident Breeder. Although not a native (likely the result of an escaped cage bird) it is the beloved national bird of Bahrain. A Ministerial Order was issued by the Supreme Council for Environment in 2005 prohibiting the trapping and sale of the species. It is common in the wild and breeds close to humans. There is no physical distinction between males and females and they feed on fruit, including dates.
