Phylum: Gastropoda
Class: Mollusca
Family: Muricidae
Species: Murex scolopax
Description: The shell has a very circular, rather bulbous, last body whorl, a rather short spine and an extremely long but thin canal. The oter surface of the shells is sectioned into three by three lines of long, sharp, gently curved spines. The whorls also have widely seperated, raised spiral ridges. Beach washed specimens are usually white but fresh shells seem more ivory to cream, decorated with light brown, especially on the raised surfaces. Typical size: L 60-95mm, W 25-30mm
